February 6th, 2024 – SAPPHIRE Technology presents the EDGE+ VPR-4616-MB, a unique Mini-ITX motherboard, based on the new AMD Embedded+ architecture that leverages a fusion of two powerful solutions – the AMD Ryzen™ Embedded Processor and the AMD Versal™ adaptive SoC. It delivers exceptional power efficiency, cost-effectiveness, compact size, and accelerated time-to-market.
Key Features:
Collaboration of two chips
At the core of the SAPPHIRE EDGE+ VPR-4616-MB motherboard lies the fusion of two worlds—the AMD Ryzen Embedded R2314 with x86 architecture and the AMD Versal AI Edge VE 2302 adaptive SoC that is a reprogrammable device with integrated ARM processors. These chips work seamlessly together through a fast PCI Express link.
This tandem is named AMD Embedded+ architecture. It optimizes performance by offloading non-time-critical functions to AMD Ryzen embedded processor (such as USB interfaces, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, dual 4K displays and storage), while AMD Versal adaptive SoC offloads the handling of bandwidth-intensive, deterministic, and low-latency processing tasks.
This approach simplifies design complexity and expedites time-to-market. The SAPPHIRE EDGE+ VPR-4616-MB allows for a smooth transition of application code from development servers to the embedded platform with minimal adjustments, enhancing real-time sensor data processing from edge to endpoint.

Power of Versal AI Edge
Versal AI Edge series adaptive SoCs deliver high performance and low latency, accelerating applications from sensor fusion to AI to real-time control. Versal AI Edge is ideal for applications such as automated driving, aerospace and defense multi-mission payloads, predictive factory and healthcare systems. Equipped with AI engines, Versal AI Edge has the capability to handle numerous AI models as well as performing AI inference on large ingests of data. It can directly connect to various sensors, processing their input at the analog-digital boundary for heightened responsiveness.
