SAPPHIRE Introduces the EDGE+ VPR-7P132: High-Performance AMD Embedded+ Mini-ITX Board for AI Edge Computing


Las Vegas, NV — CES [6th January 2026] — SAPPHIRE Technology is introducing the SAPPHIRE EDGE+ VPR-7P132, a Mini-ITX AMD Embedded+ motherboard designed to meet the growing demands of AI at the edge. By combining AMD Ryzen™ AI Embedded processors with AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 adaptive SoCs on a single board, the EDGE+ VPR-7P132 delivers a flexible, high-performance platform for real-time AI, sensor processing, and edge computing applications.

A Smarter Way to Edge AI

Modern edge systems often need to process multiple data streams at once while maintaining low latency and predictable performance. The EDGE+ VPR-7P132 is built around a multi-processor compute design that allows workloads to be distributed across CPUs, GPUs, AI engines, and programmable logic. This approach enables developers to process image and sensor data in parallel, making the platform well suited for multiple applications such as robotics, machine vision and industrial automation.

 

Ryzen™ AI Embedded for Application Processing

The platform is powered by the just-announced AMD Ryzen™ AI Embedded P132 Series APU, featuring “Zen 5” CPU cores, AMD RDNA™ 3.5 graphics, and an integrated AMD XDNA™ 2 NPU delivering more than 50 TOPS of AI performance. The Ryzen AI Embedded processor handles operating systems, networking, visualization, and non-time-critical workloads, while supporting quad 4K display output, high-speed Ethernet, USB, and NVMe storage. This gives developers the flexibility to build rich, responsive edge applications without additional system complexity.

Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 device for Real-Time and Deterministic Tasks

Complementing the Ryzen AI Embedded processor is the AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 adaptive SoC, which is dedicated to real-time processing tasks. Using programmable logic, Arm® CPUs, and dedicated AI engines, the Versal device manages sensor ingress, pre-processing, and AI inference where timing and determinism are critical. Offloading these functions helps ensure consistent behaviour in latency-sensitive environments.

 

Compact Design with Generous Connectivity

Despite its Mini-ITX (170 × 170 mm) form factor, the EDGE+ VPR-7P132 offers a wide range of connectivity and expansion options. Support for five native display outputs, dual 10Gb Ethernet, PCIe(R) Gen 4 expansion through M.2 and OCuLink, USB4, and multiple USB and audio interfaces allows the platform to adapt to a broad range of edge deployments without sacrificing performance or flexibility.

 

Advanced I/O Capabilities

To meet the needs of industrial and automotive applications, the EDGE+ VPR-7P132 is available with a dedicated I/O daughter board (IOB) that expands connectivity and sensor support. It features 3x Quad GMSL2 C/D-PHY interfaces, enabling up to 12 cameras for advanced vision systems, 2x CAN-FD ports for CAN-FD implementation, and 2x mini DisplayPort outputs each connected to the Versal AI Edge Series device. This flexible configuration allows developers to integrate high-speed sensors, displays, and automotive interfaces in compact edge deployments.

Real-World Deployment

The EDGE+ VPR-7P132 is built for continuous operation in demanding environments. It supports high-speed LPDDR5 memory, onboard UFS storage, TPM 2.0 security, and a wide operating temperature range. Compatibility with operating systems such as Ubuntu, Yocto Linux, QNX, and VxWorks across both compute subsystems makes it suitable for long-lifecycle industrial, automotive, and commercial edge applications.
